Art imitating life or life imitating art ... for under a buck!

His Wife's Diary by Tess Allen

A news story today told of a man who tracked down the previous owner's family of a house he purchased so that he could return $40,000 in cash he found in the attic to them.

Another titillating current story is the "in your face" betrayal of a famous politician of his wife with an employee right up under their household roof.

For the avid user of electronic readers such as Kindle and Nook searching for whatever is hot, new, and, if possible, cheap that portends to marry those two topics into a single premise, whether intended or not,  might strike a ready cord for their next instant download--particularly if cheap means under a buck.

A quickie read for a commute home or a long flight, a rainy afternoon or a sunny beach can now virtually be made to order. Especially since the use of tag words supplied by authors or publishers can be dropped into any search engine or drop down search link on the electronic book seller sites that would make a search for the coupling of any desired subjects just a few key strokes away!

The premise of "His Wife’s Diary" by Tess Allen is just such fodder for the romance reader’s grist mill. Good Samaritan finds valuable lost item, tries to return it to owners and uncovers scandalous betrayal under the roof of the rich and famous. Presto! An EBook from today's headlines made to order.

This is one .99 cent offering, but there are thousands and thousands of other available cheap eBooks that are now feeding the ferocious appetite for instant literary gratification. It is this special need that is apparently driving headlines such as those in the London Daily Standard News today:  After Only Nine Months of Kindle, EBooks Outsell Hardbacks at Amazon,

Who knows what the next nine months will bring - in fiction, real life or literary merchandising!

Keeping it Simple Stupid Still a Winner

The_jewel_thief_cover-jpg

You've got an hour or so commute, or while waiting in the doctor's office you don't want to thumb through the magazines other possibly less than healthy people have rifled through before you.

You have invested in a reader, a Kindle, Nook, are the proud new owner of an iPad, or you've become best friends with the screen on your smart phone or iPod.

You secretly love romance novels, but you feel that is your business and not necessarily that of anyone else who might glance in your direction.

You just want a bite, not a whole meal. You don't want to commit to or invest in the mindset of a full blown novel.

Da da! Enters the romantic appetizer, the "love bite", the romance novella that usually costs less than a buck and reads in an hour or less.

A couple new to the market place are The Kandie Shop (Love Bites) by Essence Best Selling Author Shelia Goss and The Jewel Thief (Love Bites) by romance author new comer Tess Allen. More are sure to follow soon from these authors, but there is an abundance of similar choices for the plucking.

It's a keep it simple approach that is becoming a win-win for the author, the reader and those who host these simple little jewels. Love Bites. Yum!

The Changing Face of Loving Buddy

Loving Buddy: A Sibling's Tale of Loyalty and Love

Kaye wonders why her brother's girlfriends are such geeks until she's bitten by the love bug herself!

Watching the unfolding dramas that surround her big brother Buddy as he stays the focus of the girls at the church their father pastors, 13-year-old Kaye Hawkins finds herself shaking her head in amazement a lot. Especially when Buddy's drama spills over into tensions at home. But even though she's Buddy's most ardent supporter, Kaye's discovering that being a girl is not quite as simple as it seems and becoming a woman might not be such an easy road to travel.

Spring Means Garage Sales, Yard Sales, and Estate Sales Galore!

Garagesalebag
I grew up with a mother who loved antiques! As a result, we learned the fine art of the rummage sale (as it was called then) almost from the time we could walk. Mother's love was for bone china, medicinal collectibles (bitter bottles, doctor dolls and such), vintage framed art, and a host of ealy 20th century figurines. While I also enjoy most of those items and still seek them out whenever possible, I developed my own passion for the pottery and porcelain of the 30's, 40's and 50's, vintage sewing notions, tea pots, and the glass and furniture of the American Retro period!

As a Midwesterner, treasure hunting and picking is mostly confined to indoor antique malls, flea markets, and thrift stores during the winter months. That's great too, actually I've been a proprietor of a booth or two myself throughout the years, but there is little to compare with the true taste of the hunt for those of us who consider ourselves professional garage sale, yard sale, and estate sale "hunters and gathers"!

I stumbled across a few photos from a yard sale I conducted last year and the desire for Spring to come as quickly as possible was so overwhelming the creative side of me took hold and I decided to craft something to temper that momentary passion.  From time to time I create products for an online shop I maintain and a light bulb went off with a 'garage sale' related idea. From it sprang my "Garage Sales Rock" aka "Garage Sales Professional" tote bag and a small cadre of other similar items.

So, I feel sated for the moment. I've done something to further the approach of Spring and my anticipated sprint through my front door at the break of day real soon to begin the 2011 hunt! If you're a lover of that same adventure I'm certain you're biting at the bit to get going as well! It's almost that time!
